A TV Time alternative to keep tracking your shows

Updated

TV Time shut down on 15 July 2026 (as reported by MacRumors). If you tracked your shows, movies or anime there, this page compares the two: what Watchy picks up, what it does differently, what it does not do, and how to start again with or without your archive.

What Watchy picks up from TV Time

  • Episode-by-episode tracking: each watched episode is ticked with its date, season by season.
  • Movies and anime in the same place as your shows, with a “to watch” queue.
  • A calendar of upcoming releases for what you follow, as a list or a month view.
  • Release-day notifications: Web Push on your phone or computer, and a bell in the app.
  • Watch statistics, computed from the real runtime of every episode and movie.

Recovering your TV Time history

If you downloaded your export before the shutdown, Watchy reads the .zip archive as is: followed shows and their status, watched episodes with their date, movies watched and to watch. Older CSV exports are recognised too.

Each title is matched first by the IMDb or TheTVDB IDs in the export, and only then by its title and year — which is what keeps two shows with the same name apart. The files read, the steps and what is or is not imported are detailed in the guide to importing your TV Time export.

Coming from somewhere else? Trakt, Letterboxd, IMDb, AniList and Simkl exports import the same way.

No TV Time archive: start again without re-ticking everything

With the service closed, an export can no longer be requested: without an archive you already downloaded, nothing can be recovered from TV Time. Rebuilding your tracking is still quick:

  1. Add your shows from the search; posters, seasons and episodes come from TMDb, TVMaze or AniList.
  2. On a show’s page, “Mark everything up to this episode” ticks every episode before the one where you stopped (specials excluded).
  3. “Mark the whole season” does the same for a finished season.

Those episodes are dated the day you tick them, not the day you originally watched them, and your monthly statistics reflect that. Their runtime, though, is the real runtime of each episode.

What changes compared with TV Time

  • Watchy is an installable web app (PWA), not an app-store app: you add it to your home screen from the browser.
  • No social feed, no public comments per episode, no reactions. Reviews are shared only between accounts.
  • Your ratings stay private: only reference scores (IMDb, TMDb, AniList…) are shown next to titles.
  • Your data leaves when you want: a full JSON export (statuses, ratings, favourites, every watch with its minutes) that Watchy can re-import, or a CSV with one line per title for a spreadsheet.

Limits to know about

  • A title from your export with no reliable match in TMDb, TVMaze or AniList is not added at random: it is listed separately at the end of the import, with the reason.
  • A large history takes several minutes to import, to respect those catalogues’ request limits.
  • Statistics count each episode and each movie once: a rewatch does not add to your screen time.
  • Movies and shows may be temporarily unavailable; anime search (AniList) stays available.

Frequently asked questions

Does Watchy have an iPhone or Android app?

Not in the app stores. Watchy opens in the browser and can be added to the home screen, where it launches like an app. On iPhone, release notifications need iOS 16.4 or later and the app added to the home screen.

Will my TV Time ratings be imported?

No: the CSV files of the TV Time export have no column for ratings or reactions. Favourites are imported if the export’s .html summary page is present.

Is anime tracked like a series?

Yes, episode by episode. A Japanese animated title is filed under anime, feature films included, and its details come from AniList when TMDb is not enough.

Can I leave Watchy later?

Yes. The full JSON export contains every watch with its date and minutes; the CSV export gives one line per title. Neither requires contacting support.

Who Watchy is for

For people who want to know where they are in each show, never miss an episode on release day, and keep a precise history they can take with them. If what you are mostly after is a community, episode discussions or social recommendations, Watchy does not offer them.

You can browse the demo without an account or read what Watchy does.
